View Full Version : BagMRU or Bag MRU ? (TweakUI or Kelly's corner?)

I am keen to increase the number of folders that XP saves
the folder config for.

I have found TweakUI 2.10 has the option to do this and I
have found several refs to the BagMRU settingon the web
e.g. Kelly's corner has a reg file to do this.

Alas I am confused, TweakUI creates a key called Bag MRU
(with a space) and the refs on the web including the reg
file at Kelly's Corner create the key called BagMRU
without a space.

Which is the correct name for this key? Anybody have the
definitive answer please?

Thanks

Already posted this question three days ago. We had a thread about this
issue at TweakXP http://209.103.215.76/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1247 and
tests seem to show that TweakUI writes a not working value into the
registry. The correct one should be BagMRU Size.

Thanks for the URL, I have read the thread. It makes
sense that it should be BagMRU without a space else all
the other refs on the web to BagMRU would be wrong and
surely somebody would have spotted it.

Hopefully Microsoft have taken note of this and will
issue a new version, I would never trust downloading an
exe form an unknown source to do registry tweaking.

David,

Kelly and I both do VBS and EXE files that manipulate the registry, and as
you'll see if you do a web search, they're both fairly popular sites. We
endeavor to ensure that the apps and scripts that we put out do exactly what
they're advertised to do, and if we find one that doesn't, its fixed PDQ :-)
But, as you say, it may take a while to earn that trust.

Hi David,

It should read:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
ShellNoRoam
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00001f40

I have written Raymond Chen (creator of TweakUI). Will post his comments
here.

Thanks Doug & Kelly

I have used both your programs in the past I would trust=20
these. When I stated I would not trust an exe on the web=20
I was refering to the hacked TweakUI that was being=20
distributed in the tweakXP thread on this subject. I=20
wouldn't trust a hacked version of TweakUI, only one from=20
Microsoft.

I hope Kelly can post a reply from Microsoft soon, I have=20
used the reg file from Kelly's corner ( I took out the=20
group policy objects lines as I asumme these are for XP=20
Pro and I am using XP Home ed.) =20

Although this deleted the existing bags which is OK by me=20
as they were in a mess from trying to sort this out I=20
still had some folder settings preserved which has me=20
puzzled where this info is located in the registry. But=20
after applying Kelly's reg file the folder settings I=20
have adjusted since are remembered OK.=20

I am not sure where the settings for some of the existing=20
folders were presevered, e.g I have a "my sounds" folder=20
that retained the music file settings even after deleting=20
the bags as per Kelly's reg file.=20

Kelly, thanks for letting Raymond Chen know. Let's hope there will be a fix
soon.
Btw. I am a big fan of your (and Doug's) site. Great work you are doing.
Thanks.

David, I fully understand your concern. That file wasn't intended for public
distribution anyway, just for "testing purposes".

You are welcome and thanks, David. Raymond wrote back this morning. The
mistake has been noted and he will get to fixing it as time allows.
