hi,
i have tried on many occasions to install shockwave. when
it is finished downloading i am told that i have to
restart the computer for the installation to be complete.
So i restart the computer and when i go into a site that
requires the shockwave i am told that the computer has to
restart. I have tried uninstalling the program and then
reinstalling it. I have also tried to download the
shockwave from other sites. I have even gone so far as to
phone the 800 number and they are no help. does anyone
have any ideas for me to try before i throw the computer
through the window? I am using xp.

You are doing this from an Administrator account aren't you because if you
are in a limited account, that's the likely reason for the problem.

First, open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options and on the
General tab, click Delete Cookies, Delete Files and accept the option to
delete all offline content and click clear history.

Open Windows Explorer, click the plus sign next to the Windows folder, click
the plus sign next to System32, if you see a catroot2 folder, not catroot
but catroot2, rename the catroot2 folder to catroot2old; DO NOT RENAME THE
CATROOT FOLDER. Reboot the system and try again.

If the above fails, one again, open IE and perform the steps above then, if
you have any security software, firewalls, cookie blocking even antivirus
turn it off or otherwise disable it before downloading and installing
shockwave. NOTE: since you would be turning off your antivirus, it would be
advisable to only download the shockwave plug-in from the shockwave web
site. Once installed, if it tells you to reboot do so, then turn all your
security on again, especially your antivirus and then go to a shockwave
enabled site or the shockwave site itself and test to be sure it is
installed.
