What folders/files do i need to burn onto a CD to reload
XP on my Sony Vaio? The Sony only comes with a restore CD
that requires a reformat/repartitian to restore XP. I
tried coping my Windows directory from my Compaq onto a CD
but it's too much data, my CD is 700MB. Any help is
appreciated.

One cannot extract certain files from an OEM Restore CD
and create a conventional Windows XP CD. The only
solution is to purchase a conventional Windows XP CD.

You need the contents of the i386 directory. WINNT.EXE is the installer.

What you need is a good backup software.
I'd like hear of recommendations for a package. I want it to make a
BOOTABLE compressed backup on one or several CDR disks on a
USB/fireware backpack burner. These disks could be restored on the
internal (bootable) CD reader.
The software should also allow browsing the savesets to recover
individual files.
Any suggestions ?
