Good morning folks,
My computer had recently been hacked and compromised. I
had several users logging onto the internet using my dsl
account. I am the sole owner/administrator, and this is a
private home using windows xp home edition. I have changed
my passwords and done a complete reinstall. Hopefully that
is sufficient to clean out the nest of hackers I had using
my system (if there is something else I can do, please let
me know your thoughts.)
My question is, how can I configure the security log on
attempts to a number that will automatically lock out any
hackers. Say I want the number of attempts before lockout
to be three. Can Someone tell me how I set those
configurations. I assume it is something to do with the
event viewer tab, but I can find nothing that looks like
what I need to do to set those parameters.
Thanks very much for your expert reply

Ensure your internet firewall is turned on, the built in XP firewall is
better than none, you can also install a free one - Zonealarm - or pay for
eg Norton.
Your critical updates are current - turn on the autoupdate -
Ensure you have an AV app with uptodate deffinitions, that you keep current.
Lastly download and run one of the Spyware cleaners, eg Adaware v6
A reinstall will not neccessarily have removed any worms/trojens
I have just removed mblaster worm from a virgin pc, it installed itself in
the time it took for me to create the dial up connection, then turn on the
firewall, and update the virus deffinitions
