My old Compaq is not handling XP very well and I want to
go back to 98. How do I unistall XP and keep my 30
partition?
Thanks,
Chris

If you chose to keep the 98 files, there will be an option in the Add/Remove
Programs to uninstall XP and return to Windows98.

If, however, you did not choose this option at upgrade time, then then only
way is to completely format the drive and then reinstall Windows98 from
scratch.

Greetings --

If you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup the
old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, then all
you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.

If you upgraded the Win98 installation
Elected to save the old operating system
Did not convert to NTFS

You will have an uninstall XP option in Add/Remove Programs. Depending on
how long you have been running XP, you may have to repair your restored
Win98 setup.

If you do not have the option to uninstall XP, and had

-XP/FAT32, you can format and then install Win98.

-XP/NTFS, you can run fdisk from the Win98 boot disk. Delete the non-DOS
partition. Recreate the partition and format FAT32 (answer any prompt for
LBA enabled affirmatively) and install Win98.
