Can't Download MS Updates

I have a pretty new Dell PC with XP. When I try to download
patches, etc. from MS Update I always get cut off & a
message comes up that says something like "Cryptography
Service must be enabled". Well, I searched my PC for
"Crytography Service" and found nothing. I get kicked out
of my 401k account also. What's up? I've checked the boxes
that say SSL, etc. Is it something else? Any ideas?
