This download is the virus fix program.
This happened once before on my machine
and the VIPs had me delete a file/folder and
that solved the problem but I cannot find
the data that they gave to me.
TIA
Gerald

MVP...:-)
Open Windows Explorer, click the plus sign next to the Windows folder, click
the plus sign next to system32, rename the catroot2 folder to catroot2old,
reboot and try again. NOTE: DO NOT RENAME THE CATROOT FOLDER. IF YOU DON'T
SEE CATROOT2, YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT ISSUE.

Mike, I renamed catroot2 to catroot2old and rebooted. The program
went longer than last time but quit before it would download the file.
Is it possible that some other program is stopping that function. I
shut down my anti-virus, printer and screensaver and Spy Sweeper
I can't think of anything else.

It's possible something is hung in the IE cache. Open Internet Explorer, go
to Tools, Internet Options, on the General tab, click delete cookies, delete
files and accept the option to delete all offline content and clear history.
Also, be sure any firewalls are turned off including the XP firewall.
Now, return to Windows Explorer, if there is a new catroot2 folder, delete
the pervious one you renamed and rename this one catroot2old, reboot and try
again.

Mike:
Did all that you suggested. Decided to see if it would download
anything at all so I scheduled two downloads. It completed the other
download program just fine, then promptly put one bar on the progress
bar area and then quit downloading the 823980. It does not like that
program.........

Are you using or have any download accelerator software installed? NetZip,
a download accelerator is known to cause issues with Windows update and
that's even if you are not using it or have it open at the time. Other
download accelerators have been known to cause issues as well.
