View Full Version : window XP re-starts on its own

Every so often Window XP restarts all by itself. This restart is not linked
to any particular program or activity and Window is fully up to date. I've
run Norton's System Works and the problem still occurs. Any ideas??
I understand that Windows keep all type of logs. Is there one that would
record the restart error. If so does anyone know where it is located.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi John,
Start/run eventvwr.msc and chekc the system logs.
If its due to a hardware problem, you might disable the autoreboot long
enough to gather a blue screen with relavent information. Go to the system
applet in the Control Panel, in hte advanced tab, go to startup & recovery
settings. Uncheck the option to automatically restart on system failure.
This should cause the system to "blue screen" the next time it happens. Copy
down the error message before restarting. I do not suggest leaving this
option disabled once you have the problem fixed.
Please post back with what you find.
