The site seems to hang at the "checking for latest windows update
software" page. I have firewalls, ect. turned off when I go there.
I'm going to..

I asked the same question a day or two ago. Yes, accessing the site is/was
intermittent and would give me an error code (from their site) that is not
listed in the troubleshooting.
Another said to try their secure server and that worked. Later that
evening, the update site started working also.

I tried a total of 6 different systems in one day and only the ones with
Win98 installed would connect up. Those with WinXP did not. I tried a few
minutes ago and was able to get thru just fine. It may be where you live
that effects connectivity also. I live in the northeast and I've noticed
intermittent problems with not only the update site, but other MS servers as
well.

I can't go there, either. All of the other microsoft pages/sites
seem to work fine. It appears to be update related only. The web in
general works fine, also. Briefly, what was the fix you were
referring me to? ...if you don't mind.
Thanks

Maybe I'm not clear on this. The update site freezes right off the
bat. It doesn't get as far as scanning my computer to see what needs
to be updated.

Two things not listed in the other posts which are affecting Windows Update
(XP) efforts right now:
A. The greatly increased traffic generated by the publicity of the Blaster
Worm.
B. Microsoft is apparently revamping security programs at the sites.
