View Full Version : System slows to point where apps take minutes to open

I checked task manager and it showed 100% CPU usage. So I
checked for the process using the most resources and it
appeared to be part Real player and shut it down. I
checked MSConfig and saw some Real player programs listed
should I remove them or uncheck them so they don't load
on boot up?
I also had a Norton file show up later as using 94%
system resources should I uncheck this one as well?
What causes files like this to use almost all system
resources and how can I keep this from reocurring in the
future?
Thanks for your help!

Hi
It may be caused by the 811493 update if you have installed it.
811493 is not working good on a lot of computers (MS is aware of this),
and you should remove it using Add/remove Programs in the Control Panel.
If you get a warning that other installs may stop working if you remove it,
just ignore it.
The 811493 fix is not critical really, it is rated as "Important" only by MS.

e.g. this:
"For an attack to be successful, an attacker would need to be able to logon
interactively to the system, either at the console or through a terminal
session."

I would uncheck anything I don't need in MSCONFIG. All this junk runs in
the backgroung and slows things down. Carefull about disabling your Norton
Antivirus Programs.
