While trying to avoid all of the recent blasters and worms
I attempted to update my Sony Vaio notebook with service
Pack SP1 update. The computer froze completely and had to
be unplugged to restart. Now that's all it does. Restart
over and over, it only gets to the window logo srceen and
restarts again. All I can do is reboot with my "set of 6
XP boot floppys" and get to the command prompt. Windows
doesn't recognize the partitian even though c and d show
up at the command prompt, as do a and e. My only restore
cd's are the Sony restore set that require a complete
reformat. I tried to "make" a "full version XP" cd from my
Presario but it doesn't work to reload XP home. Any
idea's? Help is greatly appreciated - thank you in
advance! John

David, Thanks, It looked exactly like the "310396" you
mentioned however the fix didn't work. I couldn't get into
safe mode either, only the "console" that wasn't any help.
I went to the store and bought the XP Pro upgrade (while
I'm at it) and am booting off of it and upgrading to the
Pro. It seems pointless not to have an "original"
microsoft CD of some kind. Thanks again.
