i am having two problems
1.every time i boot the system 32 folder opens showing its contents and i
have to close it
2. when the system starts i get a message with a heading "can't run 16-bit
windows program" and below it there is that yellow triangle with an
exclamation mark and a message that says "insufficient memory to run this
application. Quit one or more windows applications and then try again.there
is only one option below that--ok button.
my win .ini file reads like this.

From MVP Doug Knox:
If its the System32 folder opening (on XP anyway) its been linked to an
entry for the SB Audigy 2 sound card, in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run
The data value is /L:ENG (but has a leading space that can't be seen).
The value name is SB Audigy 2 Startup Menu. Kelly has a script to correct
this at:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/xp_system32opens.vbs
As to the 16-bit, it could be any of a number of things. Is this an upgrade
installation of XP over a previous setup. Many soundcards have 16-bit
legacy drivers they install for DOS compatibility which is essentailly
useless in XP but if carried over might be casuing this problem. As near as
I can tell, the Win.ini reference is just a setting for environmental
variables but may not indicate the source of the problem
A better place to look would be Event Log. Open Control Panel, open
Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for errors that correspond to
the time when you see the 16-bit error message, double click the error, the
informatio within may give a clue as to the source of the error.

You'll find a fix for this part of the problem at line 260, right:
"System32 folder opens upon boot."
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Good luck!

hi mike! no such entry in the key specified and (probably due to that ) the
vbs from kelly's site didnot help. it closed saying that it cannot fix the
problem as the expected entry was not there.
it is a clean install of xp and not an upgrade.
event viewer did not show much. further please?

hi frank! thanks.
both the issues have been resolved.
the ms article helped me because there was an entry with value ""in the run
command as specified there.
but i didnot do any thing there.
in the msconfig there was a corresponding entry showing the source as the
same key and HAVING NO NAME FOR THE ENTRY HERE. significant?
anyway i unchecked that and found that the entry for omnipage limited
edition called ocraware was causing the 16 bit problem. removing the
checkmarks against both these took care of both the problems--namely warning
abt 16 bit prog and the system32 folder opening.
ps: you probably hit the reply button rather than the reply group. so for
the benefit of those who are following the discussion i am cutting and
pasting all this and putting it up in the same thread.
thanks a lot.
