Hi. For clarification you can't format C if it is the root directory. In
other words you can't just right click C and select Format. You'll get an
message stating that you can't do this.
However to format C take this link
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm and look for How to Format. If
you plan is to reinstall XP then you can simply boot with the XP CD and
select the option to Setup Windows. After the License Agreement you will
have options on where and how to install. If you choose to do a clean
install you will be able to repartition and/or reformat before XP starts
it's installer program.

If you don't have a recovery cd, or an MS XP disc you're screwed
You need one or other before trying anything!
Tried starting in safe mode?

If you have an HP or Compaq the restore files are on a partition on your
hard drive. You might be able to Hit F10 at the Logo screen and go into
re-installing. Just keep hitting the F10 key as soon as you get to the logo.
