task bar too tall?

I have windows xp and the task bar has some how doubled
in size. I try to drag it down to a normal size and it
disappears. It's double tall and I don't like it.

this is so easy it hurts.

unlock taskbar
position cursor at top
get <-> vertical arrows
drag down
lock taskbar
