View Full Version : How set up a Scheduled Task?

I've tried to set up a scheduled task (Norton Live Update) - but can't get
it to run. So I set up Microsoft Word to run (thinking it would be easy) -
but it doesn't run either. However, Norton One Button Checkup runs (it is
set up by Norton when you install Norton System Works). Can someone help me
please?

When you run a Scheduled Task, the account used to run it must have a
password.

Since the PC is a notebook and I'm the only user, I don't use a password.
Also, Norton One Button Update runs with a schedule without a password. I
don't understand why I need one. Please explain. Thanks......

Norton's utility may run in the background, not as a Scheduled Task.

You don't have to have a password. I think the program has to be a stand
alone app
in order to run? I'm not sure the only thing I use the scheduler for is auto
shut down in
the am and pm :)

No, Norton's Utility is in the list of Scheduled Tasks.

Then they know of a work around that I don't. The only way to run Scheduled
Tasks without a password requires allowing blank passwords to be used for
other than a console logon, which opens up a variety of security holes that
could be exploited to hack into your system.
