Play Control Settings wont stay remembered

In XP Control Panel Sound settings and then Advanced tab.

My Wave setting will not stay remembered. Every time I close the dialog box
the setting reverts to the old setting. Any suggestions?

Are you running a media player program, Windows Media Player, MusicMatch. If
you change the volume control on those programs it could change your global
WAV settings.
