Boot problem - Windows XP home

Hi,
When I boot my PC it's quickly comes up with the 'Welcome'
page. After I hit my profile icon it goes to the
wallpaper and stops. No icons on the desktop, no 'Start'
button, nothing. Recently did all Windows Updates for XP
as well as Norton Antivirus update. Could it be display
adapter????
