Everytime I try to change a file name etc...in the active
Explorer window the screen refreshes and I have to start
all over again. Is there a way to trun this function off
or at least raise the interval ot time the screen
refreshes?

You could try start>run>type "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll". That should sort it, if
not, then right click your desktop>properties>appearance>effects>uncheck "use
following transistion effects....". That worked for me.
