When attempting to move some pictures (.jpg) from hard
disc to CD-RW an error reported that the media was write
protected and that I should remove write protection. Where
do I do this?

Right-click on the picture filesname, properties, at the bottom, uncheck
read-only

Thanks, I thought that the message related to the disk and
not the files, now I understand ! I will give it a try.
Many thanks

I think you were right. You are trying to copy files from the hard drive to
a CD-RW not the other way around. And it really doesn't matter if files are
read-only if you are copying them so changing the read-only attribute
shouldn't matter. If the CD-R/W disk was previously used with packet writing
software and finalized then XP's built in software can't write to it. You
could have better luck using CD-R disks.
You might find an answer to your problem here

Well the disk was a brand new CD-RW, never been used. As
a temporary solution I copied the same files (without
changing the attributes)to a new CD-R disk... no problems
using the same drive. Very odd....

Format the disk... how could I forget that! It's been so
long since I had to format a disk prior to use. I will
give it a go. Thanks for the advice.
