Hi,

I have a XP pro running nicely untill one day when the Terminal
Service stopped automatically (I still can use my computer, it just
that all the services that depend on Termonal service does not work
like Fast user switching and Remote desktop). I know this does sounds
strange.

Actually when I try to run the service from 'Services', I get the
following message:

"The Terminal Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some
services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example,
the Performance Logs and Alerts Service."

I checked the 'remote desktop'. The option is already on.

I am not sure why it says that. If anybody has any suggestions or
encountered a similar problem, I would really appreciate if you can
share it with me.

Thanks,
Anubhav

Post the results of typing "sc queryex termservice" at a command line.

Thanks for ur reply. Here is the result. If you need any other info,
please do let me know.

SERVICE_NAME: termservice
TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
STATE : 1 STOPPED

(NOT_STOPPABLE,NOT_PAUSABLE,IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x0
PID : 0
FLAGS :

BTW, If I try to start from "sc", it says:

"[SC] StartService FAILED 1058:

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

Ii is _not_ disabled, however I am not sure about the "enabled
devices".

I've seen this once before.

1. Right click My Computer, Manage
2. Goto Services and Applications, Services in the left pane
3. In the right pane, right click on Terminal Service and select properties
4. Go to the Log On tab.
5. Make sure it is enabled in each hardware profile.

Ken,

I think people have similar problem in the past. Here is one link:

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=terminal+service+enabled+devices&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&selm=MPG.183b9a49631e4163989680%40netnews.attbi.co m&rnum=1

I tried whatever was in the conversation but nothing worked.

Did you try the steps in my earlier post regarding the Log On tab? I have
seen exactly this problem before and the customer said those steps helped.
