I've written a web site that should help you solve the problem:
Windows XP Network Troubleshooting
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot
Pay particular attention to the sections on firewalls (disable and
un-install while troubleshooting), protocols (use only one),
and NetBIOS over TCP/IP (enable it).
