XP and XP Home networking has been "simplified" to the
extent that it can be very annoying to try to make it work
properly. There are some articles in the KB re: enabling
file sharing under Window XP; however, what it often boils
down to is this:

Ensure the exact same user exists on both machines with
the same password.

Check through your Group Policy security objects to ensure
that there are no enabled options like: Disable Access to
this PC from the Network.

The MS Knowledge base articles (cann't recall the numbers)
are actually rather good.
