View Full Version : Should ACPI and PnP be ON?

Got a motherboard using Intel 440BX chipset with Celeron 1.4GHz.
The BIOS allows Power Management (ACPI or APM) to be turned Off and also the
Plug and Play can be turned off. I have heard that XP works better with both
being OFF.

Depends on the chipset you are using and how solid the drivers for your
components are. I remember disabling ACPI and PnP back when XP was just
released, due to the fragility that certain drivers had running on XP. Now
that XP has been out for a bit longer, I wouldn't make any general
assumptions that XP runs better with our without ACPI & PNP. I guess it's
all up to how you feel your system should run, or you have run into a
particular compatibility problem running those.

Pat,
to give you a second opinion, I agree with David.
Primarily you want them both on, because they perform useful
services. Short of any good reason to do otherwise, keep them
on.
