I was another victim of the bug which rendered dial up
networking dead in the water. Unfortunately, while away
on business last week, I painfully discovered that XP
would not let me create a dial up connection to the
internet. I tried all kinds of tricks to enable it, to
no avail.
Nothing like not being able to pick up your business e-
mail all week. Thanks, Bill.
Once I returned to the office I fired up Windows Update
and downloaded all the critical patches - that seemed to
solve the problem.
Moral of story - establish and test your connections
BEFORE you hit the road.
Moral II - just dont ever ASS-U-ME that Windows is going
to work when you need it (like in your hotel room in
another city - ARGH !)
