Maybe I'm misinterpreting you, but it sounds like you are trying
to run the backup app on one PC to backup files on another PC;
AFAIK, the NTBACKUP app won't do that except for shared files.

My suggestion was to try running the backup app on the PC that you
are trying to backup, and then to copy the backup file across the
network. I suspect you'll need to run backup from an account with
Admin.privs. {Warning - I've not done this from XP, but it does
work on my W2K PC.}
