can i use roaming profiles on a workstation running xp home edition on a
network with a linux server running samba? the samba server acts as an NT
domain controller for the purpose of user authentication and providing a
profiles share for the workstations on the network to get their profiles.
this works fine with windows 98 workstations but i've got an xp machine that
needs the same functionality and the "roam" button for the profile location
on the advanced tab of the system applet is disabled. the knowledge base
windows xp says in article 314478:

NOTE: Verify that you are not choosing users or groups from a Microsoft
Windows NT-based domain, because Windows XP is designed to use Active
Directory to select domains

does this mean that xp only works on active directory domains and not nt
domains?

Gary,
Don't think XP Home can have a roaming profile, since it can't join a
domain - period - WinNT, 2k, or an Emulated NT domain. Sure XP Home can
attach to a domain and access network shares, but that's about it.
