View Full Version : Restoring Help Links in Windows XP

Tom

I inadvertently disabled/removed the help functionality
in Windows XP (probably by cleaning up the registry a
little too thoroughly).
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to reinstall
the links for these support features? Any suggestion that
does not involve reinstalling windows, formatting the
drive or rolling back to a previous configuration by
using a system restore would be a great help.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I ran tweak XP to clean the reg,
but the backup copy of the registry I kept is too recent
and already is without the links - I realized the problem
too late.
I tried to go to services, but all this tells me is that
help and support and RTC, which it depends upon, are both
running. I have never used services before, so if you you
have more ideas, bring them on...
Thanks again.

Some regclean programs delete necessary data in the registry rendering the
help files useless. There is a repair for it which you can find at the MS
site or Google. Other than that, I would try the services. Go to control
panel, administrative tools, click services, highlight help and services.
You may want to try shutting it down, reboot then turning it back on.

A good registry cleaner that does not damage the help files can be had free
at www.jv16.org. I've been using it since it first came out . Used it on
Win95, 98 ME and now XP. Great program. Written by someone in Finland.
