I am having trouble setting up my network. I have a
laptop running win xp connected to a router by wireles
connection. I also have a desktop running win me
connected to the router and to a printer by cables. I
have internet access via cable modem and do not use
internet connection sharing. I have run the network
wizard on both computers and I think the problem I am
having is that I need to create a disk to install needed
software onto the win me computer. However, my laptop
came preloaded with win xp (I have no CD-rom for win xp)
and does not have a floppy drive (it does have a CD
burner however); thus I cannot create a disk onto a
floppy and I cannot use tools from the win xp CD. My
main goal in setting up the network is to share the
printer. Questions: (1) Is there any way for me to get
the needed software to download onto the desktop without
buying an external floppy drive; i.e., such as
downloading from microsoft? (2) Is there anything else
that I would need to do to set up the network?
Thanks,
Mike

There's no need to run xp's wizard on win me. Go to Control Panel |
Network and:

1. Install these components if they aren't already there:

Client for Microsoft Networks
TCP/IP
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

2. Configure the TCP/IP properties to obtain an IP address
automatically.

3. Set the workgroup name to the same name (default is MSHOME) that
the other computers. use.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked these things but I
already had it all set the way that you recommended. Any
other ideas out there? Are you sure I don't have to
install any software to make the win Me computer sync
with the Win Xp?
