Windows Update Service Not Available

When I right Click MY COMPUTER go to AUTOMATIC UPDATES ... it says the
windows update service is not available and will not turn on the radio
buttons. Can anyone tell me how to turn on this feature when one encounters
this problem?

Have you done a virus scan, with upto date deffinitions, this is the
behavior of one of the current viruses. Also ensure yr Firewall is turned
on.

Thank you David ... yes, I have Norton AV and Firewall. But I'll sure run it
again! Thank you for your response.
