Greetings

Under my Windows directory are a number of folders with
names such as $NtUninstallKB821557$, is it necessary to
keep these?

TIA
Trish

Trish,

These are the uninstall folders for the Windows Update patches that have
been applied to the system. In Add/Remove Programs, you should see a
removable patch that corresponds to each of the folders.

Trish,

If your system is performing properly, then you do not need to keep them.
They contain rollback files for patches that may cause problems.

Trish,

They are hotfix backup files/folders. You may remove the backup files (not
the actual hotfixes). Visit Doug's site:
www.dougknox.com has a utility to remove hotfix backup files. (Optional)
