I also have the new Belkin 54g Wireless Router and have been having
problems with it. I spent about 70 minutes on the phone with tech
support last night. First, my setup: Verizon DSL with Westell modem,
Belkin 54g Wireless Router, Windows XP OS. The problem is that I will
run fine for several days, and then I won't be able to connect online.
I did the firmware update last week, and that corrected the problem
for several days, and then I had a dropped internet connection again
yesterday. Tech support had me change a setting for the connection
speed (sorry, I'm a networking newbie and I can't remember exactly
which setting, but I think it was a change from auto-detect to
10mbps). He then had me re-update the firmware, but not without
problems. I had to manually reset the router several times before I
was finally able to do the reupdate. Once I was able to do that, it
works fine. The tech support guy I talked to was great-->very patient
and answered any questions I had along the way.
I expected problems since this is a new technology, and the standard
isn't ratified yet (in effect, I'm beta testing). In a way, it's good
for me, because it gives me a chance to learn how the networking
works, although it can be a PIA.
