We are running a Windows 2000 server and have 3 computers
connected running Windows XP.
When we try to access our website from the server,
everything is fine, but from the XP-computers we get
a "Cannot find server or DNS Error" error message, both
with Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.
On the XP-computers we can ping both the IP Adress of our
website and the name.
I have Administrator rights on my XP-computer, and even
loged in as Administrator doesn't help.
When I log on on the server under my name, I can reach
the website, too, so it seems to be a problem of the XP-
computers (or global settings in XP which override our
local settings).
Than there is another strange thing: Our computers can't
run any active x controls even with the lowest security
level. Even when we check "prompt" and answer "yes, run
this active x", it doesn't.
So I guess there are global settings on the server which
override our local computer settings? We don't have any
firewall or something similar.
Do you have any idea, where to look?
THANKS EVERYBODY FOR ANSWERING!
