I am trying to network an XP Home PC and a 98SE laptop.
When I put the XP disk int he 98 laptop to install
required networking files, it fails and says it cannot
fing the networking hardware. I tried upgrading the
laptop to XP and the same thing happened. I'm assuming
it's related to this knowlegebase article (Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article - 310772), but I can't figure out
how I can apply the hotfix to the laptop if it has no
network capability. Can I just configure the network
manually without having to run the XP wizard on the 98
laptop?

I always configure the network manually. My laptop is the first PC that
had the network wizard so I wasn't familiar with it. I use my desktop to
share my Internet connection so that I can have Internet access on my
laptop. You should probably make sure the firewall is turned off on the XP
machine. Feel free to email me if you have any further questions.
