I have an unused 30 trial version of XP Pro that came with
my Office 2003 Beta kit, several months ago. AND, I'm
building my wife a new box this weekend. Unfortunately,
my copy of XP Pro Upgrade (The mobo had a copy of 98SE OEM
bundled with it) won't arrive until Tuesday or Wednesday
of next week.

So, with the 30-day trial version installed, what's my
best technique for the system ? Install but don't
activate, using the upgrade activation code when it comes
in ? Install OVER the trial version ? Wipe and rebuild ?

Don't install the trial version now, otherwise you'll need a "full =
version"
of Windows XP to perform a "repair install". One cannot swap Product
Keys from a "retail version" with a "trial version".

That's what I was afraid of.

Oh well. My wife has an Academic Upgrade Copy (for her
current box), I'll install from that, and hold off
activation for a few days until the new copy of XP Pro
Upgrade shows up next week. We leave the boxes on 24/7,
so I **SHOULD** be good to go.
