Network tray icon?

Go to Start...Control Panel...Network Connections. Right-
click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties.
Check the box that says "Show icon in notification area
when connected".

You can also right-click on My Network Places and choose
Properties to get to the Local Area Connection.
