You can't set up a domain with Windows XP Home Edition or with Windows
2000 Professional. A domain requires a server operating system:
Windows NT Server, Windows 2000 Server, or Windows Server 2003.
XP Professional and 2000 Professional can join an existing domain. XP
Home Edition can't.

Yes you can set up a Peer to Peer network in a workgroup. With the
software you have you don't have server software so you can't setup a Domain
Controller which is required in a Client/Server network. Set your W2K
machine as the main PC. This is how I have my network setup. Add accounts
for everyone you want to have access to it. Then when you setup the clients
be sure they logon with an account that you set up on the W2K machine. If
you want you can put folders on the W2K PC for each user that will be using
the network. Set permissions on them so that only that user and
Administrator has permission to access it. Then go to the client PC and
logon as each user and map their My documents folder to the folder you set
up on the W2K PC, unless they are laptops.
You can contact me or the newsgroup if you want any more tips on this.
