I am still trying to get the notebook to be able to share
files and printers located on other computers. As I may
have mentioned, this was working fine for a long time (I
have had my home networked for 2 years or more). Then the
notebook, using linksys v3 wireless card lost its ability
to access files located on other computers. I first
noticed the problem when I attempted to print a document
from the notebook....it could not find the printer that I
had always used. The computer can ping any computer by
IP address only and can access the internet. It just
cant reach shared printers and folders. No configuration
changes were made. The only difference was that I was
using Oracle client on this machine and uninstalled it.
Could that have something to do with it??
I would appreciate any help on this. The computer is
fairly useless now except as an internet terminal since
it cant printer or share files.
I have looked extensively at the practically networked
website.

It sounds like when you uninstalled Oracle it reset some of your network
settings. Are you using WEP? If so make sure you have not enabled IEEE
802.1x authentication for this network. Also be sure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is
enabled.
Uninstall the printer and re-install it. You may not be able to browse
to find the printer so try this: Go to Start/Run and type the name of the
computer that the printer is attached to, preceded by 2 back slashes.
\\computername. This will open a folder that shows all the shares on that
computer. Double click on the printer and it will install. If you can't
use the computer name above, use the IP address.
