View Full Version : Associating NOTEPAD with files with BLANK extensions

With Win2K I had the HOSTS. file open with Notepad by
default when double-clicked.

Now with XP Pro, there is no "Open With" option when right
clicking and double clicking brings up the "can not open
file" for which I choose "Select the program form list"
which is where one would normally want to go but
the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of
file." is grayed-out!

How does one get XP to associate a BLANK extension with
Notepad?

Thanks,
Jim

Kelly has a fix at line 25, right, to open extensionless files with
notepad.
