I have a Compaq evo laptop N1015V with a built in wireless
LAN card (the type that slides into the top of the system.

I am running Windows XP Pro and have ADSL with a netgear
Wireless ADSL Modem Gateway DG824M.

I have two PC's and two laptops, the other laptop has
Windows 2000 on and the other two PC's have the same
windows 2000 (I have an expensive wife who's a techie!!)

Basically the laptop with Windows 2000 has a wireless card
and works fine connecting to the internet and to my
wireless router, the same goes for my two PC's they both
connect to wire RJ45 into the router and can see the
internet fine.

The last wireless laptop with XP pro connects to the
router fine and gets an excellent signal all the time but
constantly looses it connection to the Internet after
about 2-3 mins.

I've taken power save's off, firewall software off and the
QOS Packet Scheduler (don't use it). But I still loose my
connection? Is there something I'm missing in XP.

Thanks in advance.

On the XP Pro laptop, right click the wireless network connection and
click Properties | Authentication. Un-check "Enable IEEE 802.1x
authentication for this network".

Mike, have you used XP to configure your wireless connection on the laptop
or did you install some other software (the one you're using on Win2000)?
You can verify by opening the connections's folder (control panel -> Network
Connections), opening the properties for the wireless adapter and click on
the "Wireless Networks" tab. Do you have any entry in the list of Preferred
networks? If not, this is the reason why you're getting disconnected. You
can try adding a preferred network in that list with settings matching the
ones you have on the Access Point.

Cheers,
