Dumb question: Can I start WIN XP Pro in safe mode? If
so, how?

Restart your computer, jsut beofre you see the XP loading screen (w/ windows
flag and loading bar) press F8 a few times. then you can select "Safe Mode"
from the list.

Chris, thanks. Lots of choices after holding down F8, eh?
Now here's the real problem: I have a blank monitor..
totally. I inadvertently (on purpose) disabled the
vgasave adaptor device in all profiles. There was a
reason, but not a good one. Now the screen goes black as
Win XP starts booting up, even in safe mode. I have the
sound up, can hear the little Windows jingle that tells me
it's probably all booted up to Windows, I just can't see a
thing.
Anyone know of a way to undo what I did? Hard to do
anything when you can't see. After it sounds like winxp
is all booted up, I hear a little "plop" sound through the
speakers, probably a little window popping up
saying "found new hardware", that would the the video card
that I was trying to get installed. But I have no idea
because again, no video adaptor or device loading so
screen is black.

Bruce,
I've never been in this situation but as a long shot, you could try hitting
the enter key after you get the sound you believe to be the Hardware Wizard
to get it started. The default button on each of the screens is Next and the
default button on the final screen is Install, if I remember correctly, so
hitting the enter key at intervals might get the default video driver
installed. Like I said, this would be a long shot, one I have never tried,
and there is no guaranty of success but, if you're desperate enough, it
might be worth a shot.
Post back and let me know how it turns out.
Good Luck,
Mike
