In another MS Newsgroup (Media Player), I was advised to
try booting Windows XP off the disk and doing a "Repair".
Following instructions, I went into my BIOS and changed
the Boot Sequence to "CD ROM.....", put in my Windows XP
Pro disk and rebooted, expecting Windows to then run off
the disk and not my C drive.
Didn't work. The disk spun round as though it was being
read, but then continued to boot into Windows off the C
drive, not the disk as I hoped.
I tried a few times, tried a few different things and
nothing worked. I could not work out how to run Windows
off the disk. Maybe there is a setting somewhere I have
to change??
Does anyone know a way round this???

Hi
Did you see the message 'Press any key to boot from CD'? Did you press any
key?

What you should see if you have it correctly configured in the BIOS is a
line appear on the screen:
Press Any Key to Boot from CD
Press a key. Any key. Spacebar, Enter, whatever! If you do nothing, it
will continue on and then boot from the hard drive.
If this is a System Restore CD, you may need to boot from a special floppy
drive supplied by the PC manufacturer first. If this is a retail XP CD, and
you have the BIOS configured correctly, you will see the "Press Any Key"
line.
