We currently have Windows XP that came with our new
computer. We have several programs from our old windows
98 computer that do not work with this new operating
system.
Is there something we can do? A couple of compnaies we
contacted said their are "patches" we can download. If
this is true, how would I go about doing this.
Thanks

The patches they are talking about are their patches. You would go to the
software web site, you really should have asked these companies for that
information about their web site locations, look for the patches, download
and install them.
Also, XP has a compatibility mode. It doesn't work for everything but you
might give try installing these apps in that mode and see if it helps.
Start\All Programs\Accessories\Program Compatibility Wizard.

You left out the most important part. What are the programs? Chances are,
someone here has had the same exact problem with these programs and can
help.

My recomendation regarding this is to get the current versions of the now
faulty programs. Will possibly save a lot of grief tied to updating. True,
there is a larger expense involved but I found it was worthwhile. I went
from 95 to xp and purchased Office-xp to replace my old Office 97. Reads
old creations no problem.

Except that Office 97 is completely compatible with Windows XP, so you spent
your money unnecessarily.
