Volume Progress On Desktop

I thought I asked this question before but I can't find
it. When I click on Keyboard in the Control Panel I get
the Keyboard Properties. Then I click the tab "Keyboard
Manager". Then I go to the bottom and put a check in the
square that is labeled "Enable Mutimedia Buttons and
Onscreen Display" Then I exit. Now haveing done this
whenever I change the Volume of any music that I access it
displays the level of Volume across the bottom of my
monitor in bars. The more bars the higher the volume and
less bars less volume. The problem is it will not remain
in that function if I shut down. If I shutdown I have to
repeat the complete procedure to get it to show again. I
think if I do it once it should stay in that mode unless I
go back and uncheck that option. I am using Windows Xp
Home edition. I had windows ME and it stayed in the mode
that I put it in. I believe XP should too. Does anyone
have an remedy for this problem. How can it be made to
stay as I check the enable square. I will appreciate any
help or comments from anyone.
