This is going to sound really silly to some but can
someone tell me how you locate an old message EASILY
after a few days. Is there a search feature that I'm not
aware of. I am new to this newsgroup community messaging
so bear with me on this. Thanks for your help.

If you are using Outlook Express to view newsgroups it says "Find" on the
top toolbar.
Their is also a search button next to reply for the web based viewer

right to the post.

5 Steps to computer safety:
1) Use a good quality anti-virus, and keep it up-to-date.
2) Use a firewall. The one in XP works fine, but there are better ones out
there.
3) Keep Windows up-to-date. It's your choice whether or not you want the
recommended updates, but the critical updates are just that - critical.
4) Beware of adware and spyware. There are many programs that will help to
protect your computer, but it's up to you to prevent it as well. Make sure
you read the agreement of the software before you install it. It should
tell you if it will be installing any additional programs.
5) Be cautious of attachments. Microsoft NEVER sends out attachments via
email. Always scan all attachments before opening them.

Change the obvious to the obvious.

Unfortunately, you are using the web view to access these newsgroups and the
search function is horrid. A much better option is to use Outlook Express to
view these newsgroups. Once you do this, you will have options like "Show
replies to my messages" and other equally cool things. It is free and very
easy to set up. Here are the instructions:
Outlook Express Newsgroup Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to access Windows XP newsgroups using Outlook Express.
Print out this page for easy reference as you go through the steps.
Launch Outlook Express, which is installed with Windows XP.
On the Tools menu in Outlook Express, click Accounts.
In the Internet Account dialog box, click the Add button, and then click
News.
In the Internet Connection Wizard that appears, type your name in the
Display name field, and then click Next. Type your e-mail address in the
e-mail address field, and then click Next. (Suggest you use an anti-spam
email address like )
Type msnews.microsoft.com in the News (NNTP) Server field.
Click Next. Click Finish, and then click Close.
When asked, "Would you like to download newsgroups from the news server you
added?" click Yes.
In the search box at the top of the newsgroups dialog, type
microsoft.public.windowsxp. to display all Windows XP newsgroups. Click the
newsgroups you're interested in, then click the Subscribe button, and you're
ready to go!
