I need a WinXP startup disk that fits on 1 floppy or
allows it to be on 3 or 4. The Microsoft download I found
online is over 4 MB and doesn't allow me to put it on
multiple disks.

Does anyone know where I can find what I need? THX Rob

You can't make a Windows XP sartup disk with just 1 disk. To start the
setup process it requires all 4 floopies with the drivers on them.

I am not neccesarily familiar with the Microsoft download that you speak of,
but

I don't suppose that you are meant to run the downloaded program in windows,
whearby it will ask you to insert your 4 floppys in turn.

Is the downloaded file an executable?

I mean if it's meant to go on floppys, thieres never (normally never) been a
4MB floppy, has thiere?

What do you need it to do? This might work http://www.bcfirst.com/xpboot.exe

Rob

There are actually six disks in the official XP set. You can find links to
download the program to create these disks here:

The file from Microsoft to create the WinXP startup disk
set is a self executing file. After you download it,
close the Browser application, and using My Computer or
explorer find the file and double click on it. This will
start an application which will walk you through the
process of creating the six disk set. One word of
caution, make sure you have six formated disks ready and
be very sure they don't have any bad sectors. The
program writes an image file to each floppy, but doesn't
check it first. If there are any bad sectors, you won't
find out until you try to use the disk. There is a
different set of disks for both XP Home and XP pro. Be
sure you get the correct one for your version.

Good luck
