I purchased windowsXP but had compatability problems and
filed the program away and stayed with windows ME. I went
to my files today and discoved that my wife had thrown
away my product ID number (she doesn't understand that you
need that to install the system). Anyone got any ideas as
to how I can get the ID number so I can upgrade to XP.

Thanks

Call (800) 426-9400, and explain the situation. If you registered your
copy, they should be able to give you a working CD Key.

Since you don't have it installed, and since the Product Key is not stored
on the CD, you are basically out of luck, unless you have an OEM version and
the vendor you purchased it from has a record of you purchasing it and
notated the Product Key for his/her records?
