View Full Version : Adding win2k client to WinXP PRO wireless network

I have 4 xp pro computers as part of a wireless network. I had a win 2k
laptop as part of this group working well until I had it connected at work
to another network. Now I can't get my home network connection back. I
connect to the internet with this wieless connection fine. My xp computers
see the win2k machine but cannot access it. The win 2k machine however says
that "Mshome is not accessible. The list of servers for this workgroup is
not currently available."
Netbios is enabled over TCP/IP. All workgroups are named the same.
Firewalls are currently turned of.
I'm almost to the point of upgrading my laptop to XP.

Please reply to this message in the news group (not by E-mail) with
more information to help other people understand the problem. For
example:
What does "My xp computers see the win2k machine but cannot access it"
mean? How do they see it? How do they try to access it? What
exactly happens when they do it? If there's an error message, what
does it say?
Have you verified that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is Enabled (not Default) on
all of the computers, including win 2k?
Can xp computer access win 2k using its IP address instead of its
name? For example, if its address is 192.168.1.100, type this in the
Start | Run box:
\\192.168.1.100

The win 2k machine can access all of the XP machines by the IP address's
(duh, I didn't do that before) but not from "computers near me". The error
message is: "Mshome is not accessible. The list of servers for this
workgroup is
not currently available."
However, when trying to access the win 2k macine from an XP machine by start
| run \\ IP address I get: "the referenced account is currently locked out
and may not be logged on to". When I try to access from computers near me I
get: "Mshome is not available. Network path not found"
Netbios is enabled over TCP/IP in all computers, not the default.
I'm not sure what account being locked out means nor do I know how to fix
it.
Thanks

Figured out lock out security policy. Now I can access the win 2k computer
by the IP address. How do I get the computers to show up in "computers near
me" and access them by name?
