My CuteFTP has a file sm.dat which is apparently marked
as a 'read only' file.......I have instructions to change that. How do I
change it?
Thank you.

Select the file in Windows Explorer, right click, select properties and
change the attribute as desired.

Naaaa, I gather the file is up in a server?
OK, if it is,.... log on to your site & go to the file & click on it (to
select it) & then if you right click on it, you should have a choice "change
attributes" or something from memory. Select that & a window should open up.
Don't worry about the top half or so but on the bottom row, put 7..7..7.
That is 7 in all windows.
Did that work? Let us know & we can be more exact?

No, I don't think it's 'up on a server'.
It is on my hard drive, in c:/program Files/Globalscape/CuteFTP
and opening that file it looks like this:

William:
I would guess then that you change sm.dat to sm.jpg. I hope this helps.
