Hello, I purchased Windows XP Professional (full retail
version - not upgrade). I would like to install it on my
computer which has windows 98SE. All of my system
requirments are fine.
My question is can I install the full version, not an
upgrade? If I do, will this wipe out all of my programs
when it is installed. Will I have to back up all of my
data and program files?
Is this an easy installation?
Should I have purchased the upgrade version?
I am concerned with loosing my business data and files.
Please advise. Thank you. Jeannine

Yes, install it while you're booted into your current OS... Pick "Update
(Recommended)" for this.

No but you should backup anyways. The answer no is vague... You may, you may
not, update is finicky.
::
:: Is this an easy installation?
As easy as any, easier then most, and easier then any Linux install other
then BlueLinux... Easy is hard to gauge.
:: Should I have purchased the upgrade version?
Your version will upgrade too, better to have the full version.

Just one other suggestion in addition to what has been posted. You say all
your system requirements are fine but that doesn't mean you don't have
hardware or applications that may stop the installation. When you place the
XP CD in the drive, one of the options is to "Check System Compatibility."
It would be a very good idea to select that first to be sure there are no
issues that need to be corrected prior to installation. NOTE: do not
consider anything in the report so small that you can wait until after XP
setup to resolve as anything that turns up might cause setup to be halted.
