I'm hoping someone can help with an issue that is driving me crazy.
Consider the following two systems:
SysA - Windows ME with a printer (shared) attached
SysB - Windows XP Home with a cable modem (shared attached)
I used the Windows XP system to create a Network Setup diskette and
then used this disk on the ME system. I have shares on both systems.
At first, everything was fine. I used SysB to access SysA's shares and
vice versa. I put security on SysA folder shares and SysB was prompted
for passwords as required. A few days later I noticed that SysB was no
longer being prompted for passwords when accessing the shares on SysA.
I didn't pay that much attention to it as both systems are used only
by me, but then the situation worsened. Now SysA cannot access the
shared printer or any of the folder shares on SysA, though SysA can
access SysB, including the shared cable modem with no problems. When I
try to use SysB to access a share on SysA I get the following message:
\\SysA\Share is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact Administrator, etc.
What would happen to cause this network to act funny? The only changes
I have made are prompted Windows Updates on the Xe system. I started
all over again by using the floppy on SysA and everything was ok again
for a few days, but now I'm right back where I was before. This is
driving me crazy! This should be such an easy thing and it causing me
stress beyond belief. Not to mention that my cable modem just stops
communicating in the middle of transmissions and I have to reset it.
Comcast sucks for Internet!
